The music video for "Loose" walks you through a day in high school student Samantha's life, staring Lexi Ainsworth (General Hospital, Gilmore Girls), exploring her feelings for her classmate Hannah, played by Nicole Fox (ANTM, The Bold and The Beautiful). The video also stars Julian De La Calle (Ugly Betty, How to Get Away With Murder, Heroes, The Fosters) as Hannah's boyfriend who plays the bully in this tragic storyline.
You are shown the relationship between the two girls ignite romantically while away from school grounds and the other students. Exchanging glances, kisses and enjoying intimate moments above the city streets, while back on campus, you are shown a harsh contrast with Samantha being exiled and ridiculed by fellow class mates and ignored by Hannah.  After a drunken show of affection at a party, you watch the devastation of Samantha's actions play out when back on school grounds.  The anxiety and fear bleed out as you are shown how very real and terrifying bullying can be to the one under fire. You can't help but think about how just a simple intervention by a single person could make all the difference, and yet no one does.
Smoke Season's hypnotic soundtrack to this heartbreaking reality brings a hauntingly accurate insight into the bullying and tormenting of LBGT youths today.  Her lyrics echo like voices in your head, rationalizing and justifying themselves into madness.  The guitar riffs and melodic beats circle around her words, dancing around the issues so brilliantly displayed in the partnering music video. The haunting vocals of Gabrielle Wortman mirror the yearning and angst of one caught in between two worlds.  The chorus, "... don't get don't get caught up in it, it's only it's only love again", begins as a low chant leading into to a full throttled out cry, a sort of pleading from the inner spirit to stay guarded and safe.  From the first listen, this song will linger with you, bringing you back in for another listen and a second look at anti-bullying and the LBGT community.
The sultry sounds of Gabrielle Wortman and Jason Rosen, better known as Hollywood based Electro Soul group Smoke Season, deliver a clever dose of reality releasing a four part music video series for their EP, Ouroboros.  Written and directed by Scott Fleishman of APLUS Films (Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q and Talib Kweli) and Gabrielle Wortman of Smoke Season, this series will feature four different themes that come together to create a short film.  Exploring themes such as post traumatic stress syndrome, immigration and GMO pesticides, this four-part film series, which has been submitted to several film festivals such a Sundance and SXSW just to name a few, will be screened throughout the upcoming 2016 film festival season. When asked about the concept behind the video series, Fleishman states, "It came from the idea of accidental intervention. Often times, the random emotional collisions we have with complete strangers can become the most compelling of life's catalysts. These accidental interventions can either be profoundly constructive or just the opposite."
Look for the the upcoming music video releases of this four-part series, and in the mean time enjoy "Loose" out now!
